Moose Watch is a real-time location based application bringing awareness to recent moose sightings on Newfoundland and Labrador roads and highways via Twitter Users using #moosewatchnl.
A friend and I developed the idea because of a major moose motor vehicle accident problem in our province. We wanted to create something that could deliver real-time notifications with an easy way to browse the sightings. We personally funded this project and developed it in our spare time.
In less than a week, the app was downloaded over 2,000 times, the site was visited over 13,000 times, and we made national news and various local media appearances. The support and success of the app has been amazing.
Timeline
The timeline panel displays both location and non-location based sightings. The sightings are reported by Twitter users, and from there the app displays the time, profile pic, and profile name.
Map
The map panel displays location based sightings when a Twitter user uses their location to report the moose sighting- all in real time.
Creative Lead
I made all of the creative judgement calls and decided on the strategy for launch. I also storylined the video for the app with the help of Paul Hayward (Filming and Editing).
Website/App
I developed the landing page as an extention of the overall brand. I also developed the app for iPhone and Android, plus the full featured web app.
Branding
I developed the logo and colour scheme for the app and all marketing materials.
